This morning we loaded up the car (very early) and drove to Rising Sun so Daddy could preach at Uncle John’s church. The boys did very good there; Jonathan especially liked children’s church because they had two remote controls in the room.
On our way home we were sriving toward some dark clouds, so we decided to stop for lunch at Hometown Pizza. We were only in long enough to get seated when the thunder and lightning started. Jonathan was so scared that he laid on Daddy’s lap with his hands over his ears.
Disclaimer: The following paragraph describes an injury, don’t read if you’re squeemish (no fainting, Nana!)
This evening Daddy and Jonathan were playing outside. Daddy went to pick up a frisbee when he heard Jonathan tumble down the deck stairs. He had both hands full and was trying to open the gate and just slipped. He had a bloody mouth, so we ran inside for Mommy’s help. After rinsing his mouth out, we could see that he’d bit his upper lip pretty good, but everything else (praise Jesus!) was fine. He sat on the couch with an ice cube and washcloth for about 45 minutes and was “fine,” except for a fat lip!

Mommy and Daddy started moving boxes outside around 7 AM for our yardsale. It was hot then, and it got hotter as the day went on. We had some of Thomas’ toys, one of which was a red fireman’s helmet and a steering wheel. Jonathan wanted that steering wheel. He played with it all morning long. Finally, Mommy took he and Matthew for a walk to scope out what our neighbors were selling. Before they left, Jonathan said, “I want a blue steering wheel.” About 30 minutes later Jonathan came running up the driveway, “Look Daddy. a BLUE steering wheel!” Yup, they found one.
Some of Mommy’s stuffed bears were sitting in a bin. Jonathan became very concerned that the bears needed to stay with him instead. He kept picking up one bear in particular. Mommy told him, ” If nobody buys it, you can have it.” Jonathan walked over to Daddy and asked, “Daddy, can I have some money?” “Why, buddy?” said Daddy. “I want to buy that bear.” The bear was in his bed when we woke up from his nap.

Daddy got a shiney new grill for Father’s Day (and put it to good use quickly!). Thanks Mommy and boys.

We went through the car was the other day, with Jonathan’s consent, but it didn’t last long. He was trembling in his carseat. He tried to be brave.

Matthew is learning the ways of the force.

Matthew is also a hard sleeper and sometimes a tough riser.

Matthew likes to splash in the tub!
Daddy got an iPad from work this afternoon (only for a test drive). So, how long does it take Jonathan to learn how to use it?
Funny
Jonathan sat on Mommy and Daddy’s bed, grabbed a Bible, and started to “read” the story of Jesus: “Once upon a time there was a little baby boy named Je-sus. He liked to play with his toys and read books and he grew up. The end.” Well, Son, there’s a little more to it, but good start.

We went to Sunday school and church this morning. Jonathan wanted to wear a tie like Daddy, so we put one of Daddy’s own ties from when he was 6 on Jonathan (it fit).

This afternoon Mommy went to a party with her friends. so Daddy stayed at home with the boys, who mostly slept.
Matthew has been rolling around everywhere. Tonight he got into Jonathan’s toy blocks.
Catching Up
Daddy was in a 6-day intensive PhD seminar the week of May 24-29. He left before everyone woke up and came home most nights after everyone was in bed. Nana came to stay that week and Papa came later in the week, once he was finished at work.

On Sunday the 30th, after church, we headed to the country to put out flowers on Grandad and Granny’s tombstone (as well as on Grandad’s parents’ tombstone). We spent an hour or so with Norma and Frank McDonald. It was great to see them again.

When we were on top of the hill where the boys’ great-grandparents are burried, we could see the dark clouds and rain in the distance. We hurried to get the boys in, raindrops falling on our backs as we buckled them into their seats. It was a heavy rain as we made it down the hills toward home.
On Wednesday morning, Nan and Pop came to visit! They drove 1000 miles to get to our house and were still heading north on their great summer trip. We took them to the Barrel of Fun on Wednesday night - chocolate-peanut butter ice cream flowed in abundance. On Thursday we all went to breakfast before they hit the road.

Today Mommy, Jonathan, Papa, Cousin Drew and Nana went out to the country to Nana’s friend Carol’s house. Carol’s son Eric took them for a ride on a very large John Deere tractor. The boys didn’t make a peep the whole time they were in the tractor - they were in awe! Jonathan and Drew had a good time wrestling each other in Carol’s living room. Tonight Nana tried to lite a sparkler for Jonathan to see: he got very nervous and went inside with Mommy. He could see the sparkler from outside he second floor window and was very upset. No fireworks this weekend.

Happy birthday Hope Joanna! Mommy, Nana, and Jonathan met Great-Grandma at the quilt shop today to look for fabric for a “Hungry Caterpillar” quilt for Baby. They met Cousin April at Pompei’s for dinner. Daddy was very sad that he couldn’t join them.

Daddy had to fly home this afternoon, leaving Mommy and Jonathan at Nana and Papa’s house. They went to Grandma’s house and Jonathan decided that he needed the blue inflatable shair that Grandma had for the kids. Afterwards they went to a park by Grandma’s house to play.
